Religious fervour marks Torgya festival
TAWANG Jan 13: Mystical Tawang is once again flooded with people from all around the globe and this time it is for the famous ‘Torgya’ the annual monastic festival of majestic Gaden Namgyal Lhatse, (famously known as Tawang Monastery).
Torgya is basically celebrated every year in the month of January for peace and prosperity of all sentient beings on earth. This festival is also celebrated to avoid the evil omens that come on the way of the people. The monks perform religious rituals for three long days which includes offering of prayers, meditation and offering of ‘Torma’ (effigy, usually believed to accommodate all sins and evils in it) to bonfire which signifies that all bad omen and evil is destroyed.
Interestingly, Torgya has been celebrated in the monastery since its being. After every third year, the Dongyur (Ten crore times chanting of the famous mantra (Om Mane Padme Hung) is being held and this occasion is believed very auspicious by the Buddhist community residing in the vicinity.
Yet other significance of Dongyur is that after every three years, the abbot of Tawang appoints Talung Zongpan (care taker of Talung Gompa situated near Morshing in West Kameng district). The Labrang the office of the Abbot of Tawang Monastery materializes the appointment when the tenure ends after the third year.
After the rituals the main attraction of the festival the monastic dance is being performed. The dances replicates the Tantra Yana of Mahayana Buddhism which ensures safety of mankind from evil spirit and spread love and compassion among all.

ITANAGAR, Jan 13: 19 Assam Rifles, in a joint operation with 36 Bn CRPF and district police, apprehended two hardcore NSCN (K) cadres at Wakka on Jan 12.
19 AR which has been observing the modus operandi of the underground cadres in Wakka circle for last two months, noticed some movement of NSCN (K) cadres in the outskirts of Wakka village of Tirap district in the early hours and launched a joint operation and nabbed two NSCN(K) cadres namely Puman Pansa of village Ninu and Nopkho Gansa of Wakka near a Nala junction. Indian currency worth Rs. 17,600, 30 Kyat (Myanmar currency), two Nokia mobile phones and two memory cards were recovered.
Initial interrogation revealed that the two cadres had earlier picked up young boys and girls for NSCN (K). It is pertinent to mention here that out of six girls who were forcibly recruited from Nginu village two had returned because of intense pressure on the villagers by 19 AR. The parents of these two girls had gone across and fetched them back. The unit is persuading other parents to get back their wards too.
The apprehended cadres revealed that they were carrying out recruitment and extortion for the outfit and had come to Wakka circle to take back two young girls who had returned from the clutches of NSCN (K) recently, AR release said.
NABARD allocates Rs 125 cr under RIDF
ITANAGAR, Jan. 13: National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has
allocated Rs. 125.00 crore for the year 2009-
It may be added that NABARD extends loans to the State Governments under RIDF at 6.5 percent rate of interest for constructing roads, bridges, culverts etc. (32 areas) in the rural sector and the allocation is enhanced for those States where the Credit Deposit ratio is low. Government of India has opened this window for the State Governments to promote growth in the rural areas and the State Governments are extensively using this soft loan facility.
ITANAGAR, Jan 13: A concrete pillar constructed in memory of former All Kurung Kumey District Students’ Union (AKKDSU) leader Late Lungyuk Tajit was today unveiled and floral tribute was paid to Late Tajit, who died on August two, 2006 during an educational tour.
Majority of the student leaders from ANSU, AAPSU, ALSU, four branch students unions of Kurung Kumey districts, including NSPSU, ATASU, APCYGSU, KDPSSU, university and college students of Kurung Kumey attended the programme.
AKKDSU has also declared the construction site as AKKDSU Marg and decided to organize a volleyball tournament in memory of the late student leader.
Union minister lauds Raj Bhawan’s initiatives
ITANAGAR, Jan 13: Union Minister for Urban, Poverty Alleviation and Tourism Kumari Selja, who was hosted at Raj Bhavan, earlier in the morning made a tour of the Raj Bhavan complex and saw the prefabricated wooden hornbill cottage, Cane and bamboo furnished guest house, world class golf course, local fish rearing tank, local breed poultry, honey boxes, orchid house, kitchen garden, horticultural farm, medicinal plant house, flower gardens and the Darbar hall. Additional Secretary to the Union Minister Sanjay Kothari also accompanied the minister during the visit.
The Minister was very much impressed by the extensive use of cane and bamboo produced in the Raj Bhavan, organic vegetables, display of tradition attires and gears in the Darbar Hall and effort of the Governor and first lady to inculcate ideas amongst the local populace.
Governor Gen JJ Singh and First Lady Anupama Singh, who took the Union Minister around the complex, informed that effort is on to transfer of technology and ideas to the local communities. ) Initiatives in Horticulture and kitchen garden are there to provide exposure to the villagers to the new varieties of vegetables and to ensure that the local farmers are acquainted to the new farming skill and to exhort them for organic produce.
Appealing the Union Minister for her endorsement for Urban, Poverty Alleviation and Tourism projects for Arunachal Pradesh, Gen Singh said, we are looking forward for your vital contribution towards the development of the State.

However, the land encroachment within the vicinity of the temple is a serious matter for the temple committee and the government, as this being one of the historically important place of the state, authorities should take step to save the ancient temple complex from the encroachment.
Not only this, there is lack of disposal management in the temple, various types of polythene and plastics along with other wastages have also been found thrown in a haphazard way near the prayer centre.
As people from Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and other states throng this holly place from early morning till evening every day, the temple committee should have to take bold initiatives and act out some rules and against to preserve the serenity and ensure cleanliness in temple complex.
ITANAGAR, Jan. 13: A special awareness program on influenza H1N1 virus was held at Basar recently. Various PRI members, NGOs and students participated in the campaign. Additional District Commissioner of Basar, Ameya Abhyankar was chief guest of the day. Addressing the public, he said that health, education and sanitation are the most important social issues and require special attention. He said that though in Arunachal Pradesh till date no H1N1 positive case has been detected but in India alone 1066 people have died due to swine flu and it is very necessary that we should take utmost precautions.
With little care and personnel hygiene we can keep ourselves healthy and stop H1N1 flu, ADC added. He said that students are young leaders and message bearer and they can help in spreading the message among their friends, family members and relatives. He appreciated the Directorate of Field Publicity for organizing such an important campaign in West Siang district. Dr.Nani Tanyo, SMO Basar through his power point presentation explained in detail about influenza A H1N1, mode of its spread, clinical signs, symptoms and precautionary measures to be taken to keep away H1N1virus. Coming from a central paramilitary background, I am being born and brought up and educated in Arunachal Pradesh. I have deep love and respect for the peace loving people of Arunachal. Yes I am the second generation outsider, but I feel Arunachal as my home land than my native village. Whenever, I visit my native village, I always miss the people of Arunachal.
After graduation from Govt College Bomdila, I joined police force in Telecom wing, and serving with full dedication to my state Arunachal and the country as a whole. I am proud to be called Arunachalee and always ready to die for the sake of Arunachal Pradesh.

So whatever has happened can not be turned back because times once set ticks just forward. But we can learn lesson from past and can take preventive measures for the cause.
Thus one of the most important measures to be taken within the twin capital complex of our state is prevention of road accident. Prevention is a mighty weapon. It is the mighty shield which saved man kind from many eternal disasters, destruction and chaos.
Large number of vehicle accidents seemed to be the results of reckless driving in the Capital Complex. The use of cell phones, playing music, used alcohol by the drivers besides foggy weather and uneven road condition are some of the major causes of road accidents. Therefore, the drivers themselves should cooperate with the authorities and also take preventive measures.
On the other hand the traffic police should see to it that the traffic rules and guidelines are strictly enforced, reckless driving brought under control. Checking only two wheelers and imposing fine for not wearing helmet is not only the solution to this problem.

We would like to appreciate AAPSU leaders for reminding the state Govt. for introduction of ‘Anthropology’ and ‘Education’ in colleges of Arunachal Pradesh.
It is really a matter of concerned that Anthropology subject which was introduced in our lone university in the year 2000, is yet to be introduced in colleges. Many candidates who had qualified for lectureship and doctorate degree are still waiting for perfect educational job. Therefore, Govt. should introduce the above mentioned subjects in the colleges of our state in order to facilitate the educated and qualified candidates to serve and share their knowledge with the younger generation for the benefit of our state.

BALIJAN, Jan 13: A day long programme on Intensive aquaculture sponsored by the National Fisheries Development Board, Hyderabad conducted by Krishi Vigyan Kendra( ICAR) Papumpare District in collaboration with Department of Fisheries, Yupia conducted here at Balijan today.
Dr.Taba Heli, Programme Coordinator Krishi Vigyan Kendra(KVK) while underlining the importance of training programme called upon the farmers to take full advantage of the knowledge imparted there upon. He said success of an aquaculture or integrated fishery operations is dependent on many factors including the selection of a suitable site and design and construction of facilities that enable efficient and economic operation. Chayang Tajo Cricket Club set up title clash with Gorkha XI
SEPPA, Jan 13: Chayang Tajo Cricket Club (CCC) defeated (CCC) Seppa United by 25 runs to set up a title clash with Gorkha Eleven tomorrow at general ground here.
Chayang Tajo Cricket Club made 153 runs losing seven wickets, but they were successful in restricting Seppa United run rate and finally bowled them all out for 128 runs in 19.4 over.
CCC willower Rahim Yangfo hit every delivery he faced to every corner of the Seppa ground and made 55 runs from 46 balls. Yangfo’s knock studded with eight 4’s and a huge six. Tsering Jomoh who contributed 28 runs off 25 balls gave all the needed partnership to Yangfo. United’s batsmen R B Saha and Ajit Tajo who contributed 32 and 23 runs respectively were seen sulking in pain when their last hope was bowled out in the fourth ball of the last over.
Earlier in the first semi final, Gorkha XI, who won the toss and elected to bat first, made decent 106 runs from the allotted 20 over. Bishnu Chetry with 35 runs from 28 balls was the highest scorer of the match. His innings studded with 7 hits to the fence. Chetry also took two precious Engineers XI wickets. He was later declared man of the match for his all round performance.
The Engineers XI players, on the other hand, failed to cope with the Gorkha XI bowlers. Barring Ralung Singhi, who made 25 (4x4, 6x1) runs off 29 balls, no other player could cross the double digit and the team’s innings folded for 91 runs. The second highest score for the team came from Kumar Tajo (12 run).
Arunachalee players shine in NE Chess Tourney
ITANAGAR, Jan 13: Although they failed to find the podium, the Arunachalee chess players have shown a spectacular performance in the recently held North East FIDE Rated Chess Tournament at Agartala, Tripura.
Gopur Dupit, Hina Nabam Mavan and Tamchi Kache scored 6.5 point each out of possible 11.Bikramjit Singh of Manipur was the winner of the tournament with 8 points.
Ten players from Arunachal Pradesh participated in the tournament.
Meanhweil, the 4th North East Fide Rated Chess Tournament 2010 would be held at Nagaland while Arunachal Pradesh would host the 5th edition of the tournament in December 2011. It was decided in a joint meeting of all the eight NE states chess associations during the tournament.

ITANAGAR, Jan 13: Parliamentary secretary transport Karikho Kri has assured to look into the problems being faced by the commercial vehicles due to heavy road tax. He was speaking at a function organized by All Arunachal Pradesh Public Transport Federation (AAPPTF) today.
Federation chairman Takar Goi and secretary general Dobing Sonam also spoke on the objectives of the federation and problems faced by the transporters. Informing that the local people of that particular area are willing to donate their agriculture land for establishing the NIT, the union said, the proposed site will fulfill all criteria required for an institution like NIT.
